David Brown is a senior managing director and CIO of the TIAA General Account Portfolio for the TIAA-CREF organization. Mr. Brown is responsible for the portfolio strategy, asset allocation and risk-adjusted targets for this $200+ billion account consisting of public and private fixed income, private equity, real estate and real asset alternatives. Most recently, he served as Head of Global Public Markets where he was responsible for overseeing all of the organization’s public fixed-income investments, including government, agency, sovereign, credit, structured and derivative instruments. Previously, he served as Head of Global Private Markets where he was responsible for all of the organization’s private fixed income, private equity and alternative investments. Mr. Brown has also served as the Head of Commercial Mortgages and Private Real Estate Fund portfolios. He joined the TIAA-CREF organization in 2005.
Mr. Brown has more than 24 years of industry experience. Previously, he worked at Prudential Financial, where he served in a variety of roles over a 16-year period, beginning in 1989 as an investment associate and advancing in 2000 to principal and head of Eastern Region Originations. Prior to joining Prudential, and he worked as a real estate acquisitions associate with The Boston Company Real Estate Counsel.
Mr. Brown holds a B.S. in business administration from Boston College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
