TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Company President and CEO Anthony M. Garcia Joins ACLI’s Board Of Directors

Washington, D.C., May 16, 2011

The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), whose member companies provide financial and retirement security to millions of consumers, has named Anthony M. Garcia, President and CEO of TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Company, to its Board of Directors. As a member of ACLI’s Board, Mr. Garcia will play a key role in guiding ACLI policy and developing strategic initiatives that will enhance the life insurance industry’s mission to address American’s financial and retirement security concerns. Mr. Garcia will serve on ACLI’s Board of Directors through 2013.

Prior to joining TIAA-CREF in December 2009 as Vice President, Insurance and Annuity Products, Mr. Garcia held a number of executive roles at HealthMarkets. As Senior Vice President, he co-led the Agency department and was a member of the Executive Management Committee. As President, Administrative Services Group, he directed the product operations, risk and member services organizations. He also served as president of HealthMarket’s captive insurance agencies.

From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Garcia served in senior strategy, operations and general management positions at Household International/HSBC where he built a strategic partnership organization, a direct lending operation, and led a retail branch division for the consumer finance business. Earlier in his career, Mr. Garcia held a number of senior field distribution and home office executive positions at Allstate Insurance Company, where his accomplishments included being appointed as an officer of the company.

Mr. Garcia is a graduate of Delta State University and holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. A Florida native, he currently lives in North Carolina with his wife and five children
