TIAA-CREF was honored with two first place Eddy Awards from Pensions & Investments for excellence in its education and communication programs for retirement plan clients.
The company earned the top spot in the Retirement Readiness category for the not for profit sector, which recognizes organizations which have excelled in educating clients on the steps they can take to help ensure a financially secure retirement, for its work with California Institute of Technology (Caltech). TIAA-CREF also received first place in the Initial Investment Education category for public institutions, for providing superior investment education and communication to Rhode Island public employees who are newly eligible defined-contribution (DC) plan participants.
Together with Caltech, TIAA-CREF conducted a series of educational workshops for clients in both English and Spanish. Known as the “Caltech Science of Benefits” campaign, the workshops covered a wide range of topics, including retirement savings best practices, healthcare in retirement and credit management. TIAA-CREF and Caltech enhanced the curriculum with a custom website that provided additional details about each workshop. Participants also received a unique workbook for each workshop with additional information resources and tools and strategies to help them prepare for retirement.
Following the passage of the Rhode Island Retirement Security Act (RIRSA), which effectively reformed the state’s pension system by adding a DC element to its retirement plan, TIAA-CREF sought to educate plan participants about the changes and provide actionable tools to help them prepare for retirement via the “Rhode to Retirement” campaign. Using customized communications through a variety of channels, including live seminars, webinars, direct mail, email, payroll inserts and a dedicated website, TIAA-CREF equipped local plan administrators with the information and tools they needed to communicate with plan participants.
Presented annually by Pensions & Investments since 1995, the Eddy Awards recognize plan sponsors and service providers that offer exemplary investment education to DC plan participants. Awards are offered in eight categories, including initial investment education, ongoing investment education, special projects, conversions to new recordkeepers, automatic re-enrollment and fee disclosure and education
