This Veterans Day, we pause to consider the sacrifice that millions of our nation’s heroes have made to protect our way of life and the freedoms that we Americans hold dear. The veterans who have served this nation throughout its history deserve our deepest gratitude for their service.
We owe a special thanks to the men and women who are serving today. Many have had multiple tours in hostile environments away from their loved ones. Many have lost family and dear friends, and many have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty for all. We mark their service on this Veteran’s Day with remembrance, gratitude and pride.
As those of us living in the Northeast continue to struggle in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we should also take time to recognize the important contribution made by the members of the National Guard, both here and across the country. In times of natural disaster and other threats to our safety and security, these brave citizens are a vital line of defense on which we all rely.
Since its founding in 1918, the same year that the fighting ceased in World War I, TIAA-CREF has been fortunate to count many veterans among its employees, participants and board members. That’s not surprising given our company’s values and our history of serving those who serve others. Indeed, many of our clients – people working now and in years past on campuses, in hospitals, research facilities and other institutions – have also proudly served in our nation’s military. To all of those who have served bravely over the years and to those who currently serve, we at TIAA-CREF thank you for your extraordinary commitment, your unwavering dedication and the sacrifices you have made.
