Downloading Account Information with Quicken for a PC

Create a Quicken account for each of your TIAA-CREF retirement plan(s) or account(s) before attempting the first download. Please review instructions for downloading data to Quicken for your PC (or Mac), and refer to your Quicken Help for specific steps relating to your specific version.

First Time Downloading a Retirement Account

This process must be completed for each retirement contract you own. For example, if you have a 401(k) and a 403(b), two Quicken accounts must be created. Retirement accounts include IRAs, after-tax annuities, and retirement plan investments.

  1. Select "Add Account"


  2. Name the Financial Institution


  3. Select Manual Entry


  4. Select Type of Account


  5. About this Account


  6. Enter Loan Information

  7. Enter Securities


  8. Summary


    Repeat Steps 1-8 for every Retirement Account owned before proceeding to Step 9

  9. Login and Select Quicken Download


  10. Match Quicken account to contract


  11. Summary of Download


  12. Go to transactions and "Accept All"

First Time Downloading a Mutual Fund

This process must be completed for each individual mutual fund investment you own. For example, if you hold a Bond Plus Fund and a Growth & Income Fund, two Quicken accounts must be created, even if both are registered under the same account number. This also applies to IRAs funded with retail class mutual funds.

  1. Select "Add Account"


  2. Name the Financial Institution


  3. Select Manual Entry


  4. Select Type of Account


  5. About this Account


  6. Enter Date


  7. Enter Ticker Symbol


     
  8. Enter Total Shares


  9. Summary


    Repeat Steps 1-8 for every mutual fund owned before proceeding to Step 9

  10. Login & select "Quicken Download"


  11. Match Quicken account to contract


  12. Summary of Download


  13. Go to transactions and "Accept All"

Downloading Data to an Existing Account

  1. Log in to TIAA-CREF, then select the Manage My Portfolio section. Choose Download Account Data to Quicken.

  2. Select the account(s) you would like to download and choose a Time Period.

  3. Click the Download button, then either open or save the file

    • If you choose to open the file it will automatically download into Quicken.
    • If you choose to save the file then you will have to go to Quicken and import the Web Connect file.

      Note: If no transactions have occurred since your last download, a placeholder transaction will be downloaded in order to update the security prices for your account holdings. Quicken will not update the balance or unit prices unless you accept the performance update placeholder.

  4. Quicken states it is unable to update prices for securities that are not publicly traded Click on Continue. This message will appear for all non-publicly traded accounts; however, TIAA-CREF supplies the prices in the download.

  5. Quicken will display a summary of the downloadYou may click on "Go to Account" or select Done and click on the orange flag next to the account name

  6. Go to each account and Accept all transactionsWhen asked to enter a cash balance, always enter $0.
