Gene Flood

Gene Flood is EVP and President of Diversified Financial Services at TIAA-CREF. He oversees the organization’s endowment, planned giving and life insurance businesses.
Prior to joining TIAA-CREF in spring of 2011, Mr. Flood served as a member of the CREF and the TIAA-CREF Mutual Funds Boards of Trustees and as Chairman of their Investment Committees since 2005.
Mr. Flood has more than three decades of asset management and finance experience. From 2000 through 2011, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Smith Breeden Associates, Inc. an investment advisor. He also served as Director of the firm from 1994 to 2011. Prior to joining Smith Breeden, he was a Portfolio Manager at Morgan Stanley Asset Management. He also was on the faculty of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business where he taught finance.
Mr. Flood currently serves on the North American Executive Board of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.
Mr. Flood has a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
