As the American professoriate ages, faculty recruitment and retention have become major concerns for higher education institutions. Most colleges and universities can quickly address immediate or short-term faculty needs to meet student demand, but few have considered taking a systematic approach to developing a cohesive campus strategy to build up vital faculty ranks to meet future needs. Taking a proactive approach to meeting future institutional needs requires involvement and commitment from both the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Academic Officer to work through numerous related issues.
At the invitation of the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the TIAA-CREF Institute will be providing an important web-based presentation addressing trends and issues associated recruiting and retaining faculty. On Monday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT, the Institute will be partnering with the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) to provide this important presentation to presidents, chancellors, business officers, senior plan administrators, and other key contacts at our client institutions. The event will be broadcast live from NACUBO's studios in Washington, D.C. and webcast participants pay $189 per site to view the event.
The presentation will feature nationally prominent speakers: Dr. Betsy E. Brown, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for the 16-campus University of North Carolina system, who has responsibility for system-wide faculty support; Dr. Cathy Trower, Co-Principal Investigator and Research Associate at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, who has conducted extensive research on making the academy more attractive and equitable for new teacher-scholars. Drs. Brown and Trower are TIAA-CREF Institute Research Fellows. Additionally, Mr. Harold Hewitt, MBA Vice President of Administration and Finance at Occidental College in L.A. will participate lending his expertise as a Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Hewitt participates on the NACUBO Small Institutions Council representing the Western Association of College and Business Officers.
