Dermot J. O'Brien

Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services

Dermot J. O'Brien is Executive Vice President of Human Resources & Corporate Services at TIAA-CREF. He is also a member of the company's Executive Management Team.

Mr. O'Brien joined TIAA-CREF in 2003 and oversees all human resource-related strategy and execution. He also oversees Corporate Services, which encompasses Administrative Services, Corporate Real Estate, Facilities, Corporate Security, Travel and Strategic Procurement.

Mr. O'Brien has more than 20 years' experience in financial services human resources in both the institutional and retail business. Prior to joining TIAA-CREF, he held several senior positions at Merrill Lynch & Co., including head of HR for Global Debt Markets. He started his financial-services career at Morgan Stanley, where he spent nine years in various roles, including head of HR for Japan.

Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Human Resource-50 Group, an invitation-only, thought-leadership and knowledge-sharing group consisting of chief human resource officers from the world's most respected companies, who meet regularly to exchange ideas and discuss best practices. He has volunteered with Junior Achievement for several years, teaching children the basics of financial literacy.

A native of Dublin, Ireland, Mr. O'Brien holds an undergraduate degree in finance from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University, where he has been a guest lecturer.
