TIAA-CREF Recognized in Human Rights Campaign Foundation Corporate Equality Index

New York, October 21, 2009 --

TIAA-CREF is proud to be among companies that earned a top rating of 100 percent in The Human Rights Campaign Foundation's eighth annual Corporate Equality Index, a report card on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality in corporate America. The index assesses corporate practices in areas ranging from non-discrimination to benefits for domestic partners.

"We are honored to be acknowledged for our efforts to build a diverse and inclusive place to work," said Renee Alexander Sherrod, TIAA-CREF's head of Diversity and Community Affairs. "Encompassing gender identity in our non-discrimination policies, providing domestic partner benefits and taking other steps to build an inclusive workplace all reflect our view that TIAA-CREF's strength lies in the varied abilities and perspectives that we can only achieve through diversity."

TIAA-CREF is a member of the Business Coalition for Workplace Fairness, which advocates for passage of the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
