Stanley O. Ikenberry, 73, is Regent Professor at the University of Illinois. He is also President Emeritus of the University, having served as President from 1979 to 1995. From 1996 to 2001 he led the American Council on Education as President and Chief Executive Officer. A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he is past chairman of the board of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Dr. Ikenberry earned a B.A. from Shepherd College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
